I’m currently on a plum assignment in the States, which also means that I’m waking up between 5 and 5:30 am every day thanks to the boost of a six-hour east-to-west time change. My 20-something self would certainly scoff, but I have to say I’m loving it. I get a solid night’s sleep of 7-9 hours, my eyes open on their own without the need for an annoying alarm, and I’m reveling in the opportunity to start my day on a peaceful, intentional note.
I attended a presentation on this very subject last night, given by a former fellow journalist who’s now a wellness and fitness rockstar. It was just one component of the dizzying array of offerings at this resort where I have the distinct privilege of staying, which also has classes, nutrition workshops, two pools, hiking trails, and so much more. And — bonus for old-school journos like me — there’s a stack of newspapers in the lobby every day.
But because I’m determined to maintain the peace of my morning, I don’t open them until later in the day. That kind of restraint ain’t easy for me, though. Media in English, on actual printed paper, is one of my simple joys and one I really miss living abroad. (I will certainly have enough material for the flight back, though.)
I’m here through Monday, and when I get back to Amsterdam, my mornings will certainly not be as peaceful as this, what with the circus of school dropoff topped off with the slog of jetlag. But these last few days have offered a powerful reminder of the peace that can be found in this precious, delicious window.
Media Opportunities
Two tight deadlines on tap over the next week, both for national outlets. If either of these are a fit, please send me a separate email with the subject line PITCH and the corresponding story: blanebachelor[at]gmail[dot]com, ASAP!
Please note: For each of these, I’ll share the outlet via email, but rest assured both are major pubs with large circs.
Story 1: I’m looking for travel experts and travelers who can comment on the topic of anti-American sentiment while traveling abroad. Please reach out if: you’re a traveler who has experienced anything (or the opposite: being welcomed with open arms); a tourism expert with personal experience or insight; or a tour operator who can share anecdotes, tips, etc. DEADLINE: Monday, June 2
Story 2: I’m looking to hear from airlines who have partered with fast food or fast food casual brands for in-flight dining (I’ve got Delta covered). I would love to hear about the partnership, what you served (even if it’s ended), and customer feedback. DEADLINE: Monday, June 2; sooner if possible
And That’s a Wrap
Who else is downright flabbergasted that we’re already at the end of May? It seems like these past five months have just flown by in a blur.
I wish I knew the secret to making time slow down a bit. But I can definitely say these past few days have given me the gift of just pausing and being in the moment as much as possible — no matter how fast Father Time seems to be sprinting.
Have a great weekend, wherever you are in the world.
Blane
